Amazing Results

( 5 / 5 )

I've been doing casual astrophotography off and on for decades, and right out the box the Minitrack LX2 was giving me some of the best constellation photos I've ever taken. It took only a few minutes to set up on my tripod and was easy to polar align with the sight tube. Tracking accuracy is as advertised, up to the recommended tolerance of 100 / focal length = minutes of exposure; for example, with a 50mm lens I got good round star images up to about a 2-minute exposure (100/50). Beyond that and I was seeing some trailing due to innacurate polar alignment and/or inaccuracies in the gear mechanism. But for wide- to medium-field constellation photos, this ingenious little device is well worth the money. And the need to not plug it in or use batteries is a huge bonus! The included ball head was high quality as well. Would highly recommend.

Bought one of these, 2 days in the boot of my car it fell apart - the securing screw to the mechanism to fall apart. I was quite prepared to re-build it - 10 mins work but needed a photo of an assembled one to get the alignment right. Having sent several e-mails over the last 6 weeks without any meaningful reply. I can only conclude that they are not bothered offering support.
In my case this product is not fit for purpose. This one and only securing screw needs to be threadlocked, to prevent vibration causing it to fail.
I will not purchase any other goods from this company if this is their typical approach to customers.
